The Gonstead Trained Chiropractor

The “Gonstead Trained” Chiropractor, Dr. Campbell

The Gonstead method is recognized world wide for being the GOLD STANDARD – ultimate in “hands on” spinal adjustment and the leader in chiropractic techniques. It is the most thorough approach for chiropractic care. This is accomplished by a total analysis of the entire spine prior to any adjustments(gently moving your vertebrae into correct alignment). Only then can a very precise and accurate adjustment be made that addresses the spinal misalignment causing pain and or changes in sensation due to nerve interference.

Dr. Campbell is one of only 2 Gonstead Chiropractors in the entire D.C. and Virginia metro area.

What is a vertebral subluxation complex and why is it so important? It is a condition in which the space between the spinal bones becomes narrower or cut off due to a misalignment in the vertebrae. This causes inflammation of the spinal nerve which may interrupt or reduce the nerve signal, which can cause pain, loss of function or degeneration in a specific muscle joint or organ. Even headaches may be caused by a spinal misalignment.

The Gonstead Chiropractor goes beyond what many chiropractors consider a spinal assessment by conducting a thorough analysis of your spine using five criteria to detect the presence of the vertebral subluxation complex.

X-Ray Analysis – Used to examine YOUR entire spine and pelvis for disease, fracture, posture, joint and vertebral misalignments.

Instrumentation – The instrument of choice in the Gonstead System is the Nervoscope. The Nervoscope detects uneven distributions of heat along the skin over your spine which can be indicative of inflammation and nerve irritation. This instrument is guided down the length of your back and feels like two fingers gliding down each side of your spine.

Static Palpation – This is simply the process of feeling (or palpating) your spine in a stationary (or static) position. Your Gonstead Practitioner will feel for the presence of swelling (or edema), tenderness and any abnormal texture or tightness in the muscles and other tissues of your back.

Motion Palpation – This process involves feeling the spine while moving and bending it at various positions. This enables the Doctor to determine how easily or difficult each segment in your spine moves in different directions – Which then shows your doctor how to reposition each vertebra back to its normal position – and remove your pain

Visualization – Visualization is a way to cross reference all the other findings. Your chiropractor is an expert in looking for subtle changes in your skin , posture and movement which could indicate any problems.

How does the Chiropractor correct a vertebral subluxation? With a precise thrust of the hand, in a pre-determined specific spot, to move the vertebrae into place manually, removing the subluxation and the “pinch.” This alleviates the pressure on the nerve, which, in turn, restores the joint function. More importantly, it restores the nerve signal from the brain to the muscles or tissues of the body, allowing the signals to flow normally and possibly most important to you – THE ADJUSTMENT REMOVES YOUR PAIN
